Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance Announces Inaugural
Summit, March 8-10, 2006
Business, Medcal and Scientific Leaders Will Explore the Convergence
of Wireless Technologies, Life Sciences and Consumers

March, 2006 | San Diego, CA

Recognizing the gap between wireless information technologies that are commonly used in other industries and the systems used by healthcare facilities across the country, and by the pharmaceutical sector, the Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance is conducting the first of its kind Wireless-Life Sciences Convergence Summit. The inaugural event is an opportunity for life sciences and wireless companies to explore the opportunities to use wireless technologies to advance the delivery of healthcare. Special attention will be given to the application of cellular technology to enable new business models and business process improvements in all sectors of the life sciences industries, including the healthcare services, healthcare information technology, biopharmaceutical and medical device sectors.

Though healthcare consumes a greater proportion of the GDP of the United States than any other nation, the industry remains behind the country’s other leading industries in the use of cost-saving information technologies. This disparity affects all sectors of the life sciences industry, including healthcare services, health care information technology, biopharmaceutical and medical device sectors.

Considering that over the course of a patient’s care he or she may visit a number of facilities — including hospitals, off-site labs, outpatient centers, doctors’ offices and imagining centers — doctors and other clinical staff spend a great deal of time, effort and money ensuring the timeliness and integrity of health information. Faxes, voicemail, e-mail and pages help, but they are outdated, unsynchronized methods that, faced with the rising costs in healthcare, generate unnecessary expenses that may be eliminated.

Meanwhile, San Diego is at the heart of the world’s technology markets, a great portion of which is dedicated to wireless enterprises, making it the perfect location for the ongoing and expanding dialogue among companies, professionals, academia, entrepreneurs and capital sources on the convergences of wireless technologies, the life sciences and consumers.

The Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance is a consortium of technology and healthcare partners designed to increase dialogue and collaboration between the two industries.

TripleTree is a founding member of the Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance and is one of two presenting event sponsors.

A partial list of industry experts speaking at the Summit includes:

  • Paul Jacobs, CEO, Qualcomm
  • Ted Torphy, Ph.D., Corporate Vice President, Corporate Office of Science & Technology, Johnson & Johnson
  • Edward Holmes, M.D., Vice Chancellor and Dean of UCSD School of Medicine
  • Frieder Seible, Ph. D., Dean of UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering

The Summit is an invitation event and expected participants will represent companies from all of the life sciences and technology sectors and research organizations, along with best-of-breed wireless health solution and device companies from around the world. Participants will include organizations such as Cisco, Philips, Sharp HealthCare, Medtronic, Sprint, Becton Dickinson and thought leaders from Harvard University School of Public Health and Columbia University.

The Summit will be held at the Estancia Hotel, in LaJolla, CA. For more information, please contact TripleTree or visit the Summit website at www.wirelesslifesciences.org.
