Our Perspective

Q&A with TripleTree Senior Director of Research Chris Hoffmann:

Q: What is the focus of TripleTree Research?

A: We focus our research on disruptive themes across the healthcare industry to identify opportunities and help our clients navigate an increasingly complex landscape. New technology and innovative solutions are creating opportunities but the complexities, regulatory issues and other market forces require thorough research from multiple perspectives to make well-informed decisions. We cover technology and services companies in the payer, provider and consumer markets. Success in our industry requires specialization. We are highly focused on the payer-based outsourcing, provider-based outsourcing, healthcare services, and health sciences sectors. We focus our research on the areas where innovation, disruption, consolidation and growth are most prevalent.

Q: What is the purpose and who is the intended audience?

A: Everything we do at TripleTree is purposed around the needs and interests of our clients. The primary purpose of our research is to help our clients, both the business builders and financial sponsors, to think strategically through themes around ecosystem alignment, partnership, growth and value creation. Also, our industry perspective reports are designed to help clients navigate where they should invest in strategies that will accelerate growth and increase shareholder value in both the short-term and long-term. Our collaborative approach to research that involves both the junior and senior professionals at TripleTree also serves as a platform to ensure our industry expertise and market intelligence is second to none. This knowledge allows us to be true advisors and partners for our clients.

Q: What is your process for developing and publishing research?

A: To achieve our objective of achieving ‘uncommon clarity’ through our research, we must take an uncommon approach. As an independent investment banking firm, we have an unbiased perspective that is free of conflicts of interest. We continuously explore themes and topics that we believe are most relevant to our clients. And, we are in a constant flow of information by conducting hundreds of meetings and briefings throughout the year with healthcare companies, financial sponsors, and global acquirers, so we maintain a good ‘pulse’ on the prevailing areas of focus and concern for these key industry stakeholders. When we identify and commit to a new research project, a lead is assigned from our staff based upon sector specialization and they are supported by a team of contributors. Through a collaborative process, a team of professionals from both inside and outside of the firm, independently gathers information on the key issues, trends, market forces and companies that are influencing the sector. Going forward, we intend to use our Web site as a platform to engage the knowledge and opinions of an even broader set of perspectives. Also, we want our research materials to become a catalyst for ongoing discussions with our various constituents. The new, interactive features on our Web site will help facilitate online discussions prompted by our research – before and after it is published.

Q: What are the different types of research published by TripleTree?

A: We bring a variety of research formats to the market throughout the year. Our Industry Perspective research reports, such as our recent series on healthcare for seniors, are published throughout the year to take deeper dives on the sectors and sub-sectors that we cover. Our Executive Insights series, such as the Viewpoint series and Principals Forums, serves to provide a diverse set of perspectives on relevant subject matter contributed by members of our Health Executive Roundtable and other advisors. And, our blog delivers weekly insights and opinions from our professionals with a more regular cadence. In addition, we publish our quarterly ValueTracker reports to provide ongoing market analysis and transaction activity. Collectively, all of these complementary efforts help maintain our position as a research-driven investment banking firm that provides real and differentiated value to our clients.
