Dr. Shawn J. Green is Senior
Scientific Advisor to TripleTree. In advising biomedical
and informatic companies, Shawn leverages over a decade
of experience as an entrepreneurial scientist and as
a senior operating executive of public and private companies.
He has held teaching positions at various universities.
Presently, Shawn serves on the Board of Directors for
the Virginia Biotechnology Industry Organization and
the Board of Advisors for the Foundation of Genetic
Medicine. He is an advisor to Ernst & Young's Health
Science Compliance Group and the School of Management
for Biosciences at George Mason University.
Prior to joining TripleTree, Shawn
was part of the founder's team of a privately held life
science informatics firm that established a diverse
network of partners & clients, including Bristol
Myers Squibb, IBM Life Sciences, Johnson & Johnson,
John Wiley & Son Publishers, Fijitsu, Itochu, and
the State of Ohio.
Shawn has also served as Senior Vice
President of Discovery Research at EntreMed, Inc., a
Nasdaq-traded biotechnology company, which focused on
the development of therapeutic strategies to combat
cancer and blindness. He was responsible for business
development activities and creating a multidisciplinary
research program to identify novel therapeutics. Shawn
successfully guided drug candidates from discovery to
FDA clinical trials. He played an active role in fundraising
at EntreMed and was co-founder of a privately-held medical
device company focused on inserting biologics, drugs,
and genes into targeted cells for the treatment of various
diseases.
Shawn has authored over 50 book chapters
and scientific publications in such journals as Science
and NatureMedicine, and has been awarded
a number of patents, including those for the treatment
of infectious diseases and cancer. Over the past decade,
he has received numerous awards, including the Meritorious
Service Medal for work on infectious diseases while
serving at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, and
acknowledgements in biomedical research and life science
informatics, including the CIO Award by IDG,
BIO-IT Leader by Bio-IT World Magazine, and
he was named one of the 40 Next Network Entrepreneurs
by Washington Business Forward Magazine. Shawn
has served on editorial boards, scientific committees
for SBIR-NIH and DOD, and has held academic appointments
at McGill, Johns Hopkins, Howard, and Catholic University.
Shawn holds a Ph.D. in Cell Biology
& Anatomy from Georgetown University Schools of
Medicine & Dentistry and an M.B.A. from Georgetown
School of Business in Washington, DC.
