Health Language, Inc. Acquired By Wolters Kluwer

October 2012

Company Description

Health Language is a rapidly-growing leading provider of medical terminology management (MTM) solutions, offering software and content to allow healthcare providers, vendors and payers manage updating, mapping, distributing and accessing standard medical vocabularies and administrative codes. The Company seamlessly helps enable enterprise-wide data interoperability of disparate systems, HIEs, ACOs, ICD-10 conversion, Meaningful Use compliance, and a myriad of payer / provider challenges with their middleware and customized content sets. The Company has many end users in payer, provider, content, HIT, and public sector markets that use HLI’s solutions to increase the quality of their data, meet compliance standards and technology initiatives, and facilitate better business and analytic decisions.

Objectives

Health Language and its long-time venture investors, Radius, Tenaya Capital, East River, Empire Capital, and Saffron Hill, engaged TripleTree to help guide and evaluate the Company’s strategic options amid a period of unprecedented growth and profitability.  TripleTree was chosen as the exclusive advisor to Health Language based on a deep understanding of many inter-related and highly complex healthcare industry drivers (e.g., MU, ICD-10, data analytics, emerging value-based reimbursement models) as well as for our experience working with high growth pioneers that are creating new sub-verticals within the broader healthcare landscape.  Health Language and TripleTree embarked on a highly targeted and customized process wherein the value of the Company’s MTM middleware technology, recurring revenue, and rapid growth financial profile would be fully realized.

Results

Health Language’s product suite is perfect aligned with Wolters Kluwer’s strategy of providing customers with access to comprehensive, evidence-based disease and drug information knowledge platforms and software solutions. The unique solutions and proprietary content Health Language has developed over the past 12 years will be a powerful tool for Wolters Kluwer, both as a standalone asset and in accelerating the development of future product offerings. The combination of the companies’  highly complementary point-of-care solutions also results in expanded product offerings and greater access to payers, a market of growing importance to Wolters Kluwer.
